Coffee with Jacquie
I turned 53 this year, and while I certainly don't have life all figured out, I can tell you this:
There are things that once took up far too much space in my mind that barely cross it anymore.
Getting older has a funny way of showing you what was never worth carrying in the first place.
If we were sitting together with coffee this morning, here's what I'd tell you.
1. I Stopped Caring About Being Everything to Everyone
For years, I thought saying "yes" meant I was kind.
Yes to one more project.
Yes to another commitment.
Yes because I didn't want to disappoint anyone.
Eventually, I realized every "yes" to everyone else was often a quiet "no" to myself.
Now I protect my energy differently.
I still care deeply about people.
I simply no longer believe I have to sacrifice myself to prove it.
The healthiest relationships in my life have never required that.
2. I Stopped Chasing Perfection
This one took me a long time.
I've worked in industries where appearances mattered.
I've launched products that millions of people would eventually see.
I've spent years on live television where there are no do-overs.
For a long time, I believed confidence came from getting everything right.
Now I know something different.
Confidence comes from showing up anyway.
Some of my favorite moments in life have been wonderfully imperfect.
The older I get, the more I appreciate authenticity over polish.
Ironically, that's usually what people connect with most.
3. I Stopped Waiting for "Someday"
One day I'll slow down.
One day I'll travel more.
One day I'll wear the good outfit.
One day I'll start the hobby.
One day I'll finally make time for myself.
The truth is, "someday" has a way of quietly becoming years.
Life isn't waiting for the perfect season.
It's happening while we're making plans for later.
I've learned to stop saving joy for special occasions.
Wear the linen dress.
Light the candle.
Book the trip.
Sit on the porch with your morning coffee.
Call the friend.
Laugh a little louder.
Life deserves to be lived while we're living it.
Before We Finish Our Coffee...
If there's one thing getting older has given me, it's perspective.
Not everything deserves your energy.
Not every opinion deserves your attention.
Not every opportunity deserves your yes.
Growing older isn't about becoming less.
It's about becoming more yourself.
And honestly?
That's a trade I'll happily make.
This Week's Coffee Question
I'd love for you to think about this today:
What's one thing you've stopped caring about that has made your life lighter?
Maybe it's perfection.
Maybe it's comparison.
Maybe it's trying to keep everyone happy.
Whatever it is, I hope you celebrate it.
Sometimes what we let go of becomes just as important as what we hold onto.
Until next Wednesday...
Have a beautiful week.
Love,
Jacquie
